In cities, as a place of cultural mixing and gathering of strangers, the encounter, interaction and living with others has always faced challenges. As ethnic and cultural diversity increases, despite the emergence of opportunities for intercultural exchange and Mutual learning, urban communities face the threat of exclusion and segregation of more people and groups, which also affects the process of urban management, planning and design. Therefore, considering the complexity and dynamics of urban issues and phenomena, it is very important to use innovative and creative research methods to understand urban phenomena and respond to the issues facing cities, because only through understanding of the phenomena, it is possible to plan and take action to improve and change their conditions. The purpose of this article is to investigate the process, challenges and advantages of using grounded theory ethnography in multicultural context. Thus, while addressing the lessons learned in the research process, a convincing argument is presented for applying the grounded theory ethnography method in order to enrich research findings and achieve unique insights in complex and diverse urban issues. The findings of this research show that by applying the combined method of grounded theory ethnography, a proper understanding of the characteristics of this group and their background in the city, their experiences of exclusion and segregation, how they face this phenomenon, how they overcome it, and the characteristics and obstacles for intercultural interactions and exchanges with others were achieved.
